Here are some of our questions ............. and our discoveries.
1. What do baby chicks eat?
Answer: Chicken pellets - Every day we had to put more food in the feeder.

2. How small is a baby chicken when it starts growing in the egg?
Answer: It starts off very, very small. We would need a microscope to see it.

3. How long is the chicken growing in the egg?
Answer: 21 days

4. How big will the chicken grow?
Answer: We think they might grow up to our knees.

5. Do chickens grow at night?
Answer: Yes, they are growing all the time.

6. What do baby chicks drink?
Answer: Baby chickens drink water.


7. Will the chickens always stay yellow?
Answer: No, some chickens are white, some chickens are red and brown and some chickens are black.
8. How long do chickens live for?
Answer; For approximately 12 - 15 years.

9. What do baby chickens like to play with?
Answer: Each other. They like to chase each other around.

10. How do you care for chickens?
Answer: After hatching from their egg, the chickens had to stay in the incubator until they were all dry. We could tell they were dry because they were fluffy all over. Then we took the chicken out of the incubator and put it in the playpen. In the playpen, we had water and food, pine shavings on the bottom and a big light to keep the baby chickens warm. Each day we gave our chickens fresh water and food.

11. Do chickens have eyelids?
Answer: Yes they do. We discovered that they close up from the bottom eyelid. Our eyes close form the top.

13. How do chickens sleep?
Answer: They slept close to each other to keep warm.

14. Will we hatch any black chickens?
Answer: No because we did not have any white eggs.

15. When do chickens start drinking water with their beaks?
Answer: Soon after they were put in the playpen, our chickens began to drink water with their beak.

16. How long after hatching do the chickens need to stay in the incubator?
Answer: For a few hours - until they are dry and fluffy.
